Forge keeps the interface people already know and replaces the memory management and model loading beneath it. On a 6 or 8 GB card the difference is the difference between usable and not, and it picked up newer model families — FLUX among them — well ahead of the original.

If you learned on AUTOMATIC1111 and your card is small, this is the upgrade that costs you no relearning.

Not every AUTOMATIC1111 extension works The internals changed, so some extensions need a Forge-specific version.
